Don’t Be Clothes Minded

no shopping

I went to the mall with a friend and she saw some pants she wanted. Immediately, I was like, “girl I got the same pants except mine is Adidas!” When I went home I tried on the pants for her to see. When trying on the pants she pointed out that it still had on the tag. I bought those pants for $80 since September and I had never worn them. I saw the pants on some blogger and just went and bought it.

I went through my closet and found so many clothes that still had the tag on it or clothes that I had only worn once. In that moment the light bulb went off! I spend way too much money on clothes that I never wear.

You guys know how I like to challenge myself, so I decided I would not spend any of my money on clothes till my birthday (which is in September) That’s about 8 months with no shopping. For someone who shops a lot I know it’s going to be hard.

How am I going to do this?

Step 1

Unfollow any store page that I follow. If I don’t see it I won’t be tempted. I’ve also unfollowed a few bloggers that only post their sponsored content with new clothes. These bloggers get paid to shop and I am wasting my hard-earned money buying things they post about.

Step 2

I have a separate email that all the places I shop send me deals. I have deleted that email app from my phone. I get so caught up in “this is a great deal I can’t pass it up.” Guess what, there is always another great deal around the corner

Step 3

Let my friends know (including you guys) so you can hold me accountable.

Step 4

Reward myself. No, I am not going to reward myself by buying anything. (That would defeat the purpose) Based on my bank statements I use to spend 100-300 a month on clothes/shoes. I am going to save an extra $150 every pay period and in September I will figure out the best use of that money.

One of my overall goals this year is to save more and I know eliminating shopping will help.

I know this is going to be hard because I shop way more than I would like to admit but it needs to be done. I am quitting cold turkey, that might not work for you. Maybe instead of buying 3 pairs of shoes a month only buy one. Anyone want to commit to doing this with me? Or at least trying? What do you spend too much money on? Maybe make-up, or buying food on the run. What can you cut out to save more? Let’s have a conversation in the comments.

  1. This one this one hmmmmm… I don’t have to think too much because I’ve realized that recently I have been spending way too much money on buying food on the run at times. Especially when I bought $$xx amount of money on groceries at Costco like a day before. To mitigate this spending, I plan to start back meal prepping and refrain from straying from this plan! Starting tonight… this will not only help with my pocket but my health. Thank you and all the best.. I guess no bathing suit wink wink 😉!

  2. From the moves U decided to take will definitely work. I tell myself if I avoid online sites and stay away from the mall then I will not see anything and hence will not be tempted to purchase anything. I try to shop for an event instead of shopping and storing them. But that’s a positive move you making and stick with it.
